Orthodontics
What is an orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment – treatment of teeth position abnormalities, malocclusion as well as preventive treatment of maxillofacial pathology.
Orthodontic treatment does not only straighten the teeth and upgrades aesthetics of the smile but also improves overall teeth health and condition. Risk of caries decreases noticeably since it is much easier to maintain clean teeth when they are in the correct position.
- Lower chance of gum inflammation (gingivitis)
- Teeth wear less when they are in the correct position.
- Chewing forces distribute equally when all teeth are in the correct position. That causes lower absorption of bone tissue.
- Lower chance of gum recession (uncovering of tooth cervical part)
Orthodontic treatment can be performed in a very wide range of age, but the purpose of treatment, methods of treatment, the risk of complications and final results may be different.
You may find interesting that origins of orthodontic treatment are dated back to 1000 BC.
